My Work
Line- a point in motion, a series of adjacent points, a connection between two points, or an implied connection between points
For our first assignment we had to create four different kinds of lines, inventing variations of each line in the progressing columns. The final circles are a combination of all three prior squares. Line can be defined as a point in motion. That's what I tried to think about as I developed each of my simple lines into something more.

Point- noun, verb
To give emphasis or force to a basic mark, such as a dot, pixel, or brushstroke
For our point project, I decided to take pictures of points we see in every day life. Freckles are points on the human body that are unique and specific to each person, and that's what makes them special.

A contour is a line that defines a form or edge. Contour is originally a French word, meaning "outline". Contour line drawings are agruably the simplest form of art. The artistic technique of contour drawing consists of the artist sketching lines, drawing the contour of an object. The end result, a picture that is essentially the outline of that object. Artist Andy Warhol's simple sketches are an excellent example of contour line drawings, as shown above. The assignment for my design class was to create 25 contour line drawings in an hour, sketching random objects around the room. My own line drawings are shown below.

MUSICAL GEOMETRY
In this assignment, we were challenged to pick a song, any song, that the lyrics reached out to us. Then with that song, we were to chose specific lyrics to base our project on. The assignment was very open ended with what we could create. I chose a song close to my heart, Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac, lyrics and vocals by bohemian queen, Stevie Nicks. Before I could get started on the project however, I first had to research the song to find the prized answer to the question- who is Rhiannon?
Stevie Nicks bought the novel Triad by Mary Bartlet Leader whilst in the airport waiting to board a plane. Nicks fell in love with the angelic name of Rhiannon and knew she had to write a song incorporating it somehow. The song Rhiannon was released in 1975.

Rhiannon is the name of a Welsh goddess. The goddess of fertility and the moon, Rhiannon shuns away a god and marries a mortal man. That god then frames her for the murder of her own son. In the novel Triad, which Stevie Nicks originally got inspiration from, a woman believes she is being possessed by the spirit of a woman named Rhiannon. When performing the song, Stevie often prefaces it by saying, "This is a song about a Welsh witch."
Lyrics
Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen a woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised to you heaven?
Will you ever win?
She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless
All your life you've never seen a woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised to you heaven?
Will you ever win?
Will you ever win?
Rhiannon
Rhiannon
She rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
She rules her life like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen a woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised to you heaven?
Will you ever win?
Will you ever win?
Rhiannon
Rhiannon
Oooooh
Taken by
Taken by the sky
Dreams unwind
Love's a state of mind
Dreams unwind
Love's a state of mind

For my project, I took inspiration from the line, "Love's a state of mind. Dreams unwind." I wanted the photos to be very Stevie Nicks inspired, similar to the black and white photo above, with Stevie holding flowers in her hands. The photos are dreamy. Maybe her lover gave her the flowers as a surprise? I knew the photos had to be in black and white to show the mystery and the sense of unknown surrounding the icon of Rhiannon.
This is work done for my Design class taught by Professor Denise Carson at Savannah College of Art and Design.

I wanted to see what my designs would look like on a t shirt, so I put the designs into photoshop and messed around a little bit with what it could look like.
MICRO/MACRO PROJECT & CHANCE PROJECT
Micro v macro. Big v small. Close up v far out. For this project, we were to take a closer look at nature and apply the macro v micro technique to photos we take. A year ago, I took a life changing trip to Greece. I decided to use some of the photos I took, and some that I found online, to create a macro v micro grid that captures the essence of the greek islands. This assignment is also what I'm using as my Chance Project. If I hadn't, by chance, gone to these exact places at the exact times I went, this project would be completely different.

This assignment was similar to the point and macro/micro projects shown above, only this time we were to focus on man made objects. I decided to give attention to Broadway posters. In a grid format, I chose to showcase show defining characteristics of different Broadway musical posters. An example: the outline of a lion's head that obviously represents The Lion King. It was easy for me to imagine a theatre kid having a poster of this on his bedroom wall or even on his cellphone case. Once a theatre kid, always a theatre kid.

SCAD STUDENT ID
For this project, we were to create a new school ID, two sided and enlarged 300x the size of our regular SCAD ID. I've been wanting to create something more personal and major related, and I saw this as a perfect opportunity to do so. As a performing arts major, I have a headshot and resume that I use for all professional purposes. I created a new SCAD ID with inspiration from those headshots and resumes. Maybe someday in the future, all actors will have cards like this that they swipe when walking into an audition. In the movie Amelie, the use of warm colors creates a dream-like atmosphere and brings warmth to the screen. Almost every shot seems to have a glow about it. Amelie herself can almost always be spotted in a scene by the colors she is wearing, such as red, yellow, or green. Yellow most often represents warmth and comfort, green represents being grounded and vitality, and red symbolizes passion and liveliness. These are all big, important elements in Amelie's world. The use of the color yellow also factors in to how light is used in the film. Light shines onto the streets of Paris, creating a glow and personifying the city. Paris becomes Amelie's world, and the specific use of light works towards achieving this effect, whether that be light shining on the city buildings or reflecting off of water and cobblestone streets.

Many examples of scale, paradox, and metaphor can be spotted in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. An example of scale would be the size difference between Dorothy and the munchkin people; also the size difference between Dorothy and her dog, Toto. Another example of scale would be the size of Glenda the Good Witch's dress compared to what Dorothy and everyone else is wearing. The largeness of her dress could symbolize her importance and greatness over everyone else. The Wicked Witch of the West is a metaphor for Dorothy's personal doubts and inner demons. She is the roadblock in the way of Dorothy getting home, but she represents so much more. Kind of like how Glenda the Good Witch never tells Dorothy was to do and lets her learn for herself; she is a guiding figure. Glenda is a metaphor for trusting yourself and the personal powers you possess. Last but not least... paradox, which is a seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that when investigated or explained may prove to be well founded or true. Dorothy's friends are the paradox in The Wizard of Oz. Lions are known for being the leader of the pack, fierce, and ferocious. Dorothy's friend, the Cowardly Lion, is quite the opposite. He is scared and timid. Scarecrows are made of hay and are seen as stuffed and powerless, but not Dorothy's scarecrow. He has the most brains in the entire group.

In class, we all pulled out our sketch books and pens and listened to multiple songs by various artists, including Edith Piaf, Dick Dale, etc. we were supposed to listen to the songs and draw whatever we felt, whether it be abstract or not. We were to draw without thought, just feeling. I found it hard to not think about what I was drawing. But my best art happened when I loosened the reins and let go a little.

THE GOLDEN RATIO
For this project we had to focus on two things and two things only: the golden ratio and primary/secondary colors. When I first started brainstorming this project, I had absolutely no idea what to create; I mean the options were limitless. In the end, I was actually inspired by my ancient art history class and my interest in mythology. I chose three, very famous artworks of Roman gods/goddesses, and applied the golden ratio to the them. I decided to use both warm and cool colors on the goddess Venus, the Roman counterpart to Greek goddess Aphrodite, to show her versatility.
